This blog gives you a glimpse into the upcoming Sunday Gathering. It's an opportunity to read through the passage we'll be studying together, pray through some of the liturgy we'll be using, and listen to a selection of the songs we’ll be singing

TREASURING THE GOSPEL:

The gospel word - what we do with it

SERMON

Tom Ingleby will be preaching to us this Sunday from 2 Timothy 4:1-8 on what we do with the gospel word.

LITURGY

COMMITMENT READING

Father God, keep us from looking to the world for fulfilment. Instead, give us strength to continually look to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.

By your Spirit’s work in our hearts, give us the faith and courage to hold on to the gospel above all else.

Remind us of your love and of your kingdom that we have been brought into.

May we go from this gathering and boldly live out our mission to proclaim Jesus as saviour, redeemer and king. Amen.

MUSIC

  • Mighty to Save (Hillsong): A song that reminds us that it is Jesus who saves and calls us to live our lives as a witness to the gospel at work in our lives.
  • Look and See (The Village Church): A song that helps us gaze upon Christ, to direct our praise and worship to him, the one who has redeemed us.

TREASURING THE GOSPEL:

The gospel word - what it is

CALL TO WORSHIP

Oh, how we love your law! We meditate on it all day long. Your commands are always with us.

How sweet are your words to our taste, sweeter than honey to our mouths.

Your word is a lamp for our feet and a light on our paths. Your statutes are wonderful, they are our heritage forever.

The unfolding of your words gives light and understanding. Your word is the joy of our hearts.

(Based on Psalm 119:97-130)

Song: Indescribable

Song: Look What God Has Done

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

We've already heard that God's word brings light and understanding, that it is sweet to taste. Psalm 119 goes on to tell us that God's word is life-giving and those who walk according to it are blessed, yet so often we don't see it this way. So often, we don't really believe that when we come to God's word he will meet with us and speak to us through it. Take a moment to reflect on that now, to confess to God the way you might neglect his word, or fail to see the power it can have in our lives...

Without God we have no hope of change so let's pray these words together now, asking that God would help us in this:

Teach us, LORD, the way of your decrees that we may follow it to the end. Direct us in the path of your commands that we would delight in them.

Turn our hearts towards your statutes and not towards selfish gain. Turn our eyes away from worthless things, to you, the one who brings life according to your word.

(Psalm 119:33-37)

Song: Shine into our Night

PASSING OF THE PEACE

PREACHING OF THE WORD

John Mcphilimey preached to us this Sunday from 2 Timothy 3:10-17 on the gospel word and what it is. To listen to that sermon click here.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

POST COMMUNION READING

Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: Hallelujah What a Saviour

Song: In Christ Alone

COMMITMENT READING

Heavenly Father, help us to delight in your word, meditating on it day and night. Would we be like trees planted by streams of water, yielding our fruit in season and whose leaf doesn't wither.

Help us to believe that all Scripture is breathed out by you and profitable for teaching, reproof, and correction. By your Spirit, meet us in your word, that we may be competent and equipped for every good work.

(Based on Psalm 1:3 & 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Song: This I Believe

BENEDICTION

Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Peace be with you.

And also with you.

TREASURING THE GOSPEL:

Distorting the gospel

CALL TO WORSHIP

O LORD, we give our lives to you. We trust in you, our God!

Show us the right path, O LORD; point out the road for us to follow.

Lead us by your truth and teach us, for you are the God who saves.

All day long, help us to put our hope in you. Amen.

(Psalm 25:1,4-5)

Song: 10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)

Song: How Great is Our God

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

God tells us in his word that even though we have known him, we haven't given him the glory and honour he deserves. Daily, we exchange the truth about God for a lie, worshipping and serving created things rather than Him, our creator God. Let's pray these words together as a corporate confession to God now:

Heavenly Father, forgive us for exchanging the truth about you for a lie. We ask that you would lead us back to the truth of the Gospel. Help us to abide in your word, knowing that the truth of your word is what sets us free. Amen.

(Based on Romans 1:21-25; John 8:31)

Song: Lead us Back

PASSING OF THE PEACE

Song: When I Survey

Song: Mighty to Save

COMMITMENT READING

We know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we
can know the true God.

Now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.

(1 John 5:20)

Song: Cornerstone

BENEDICTION

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Peace be with you.

And also with you.
