THE FINAL DAYS OF JESUS - The Garden

CALL TO WORSHIP

Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

(Philippians 2:6-11)

Song: O For A Thousand Tongues

Song: Jesus is The Lord of All

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

Before a Holy God, we’re small, we’re weak, and we know we’re in need of mercy. We’re far from holy, far from perfect, and we’re burdened with uncountable flaws and weaknesses. Let’s ask the Lord to open our eyes and see the sin in our lives, let's read these words from Psalm 139 together now:

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

(Psalm 139:23-24)

Take a moment and ask the Lord to search your heart. Let your sins, fears, and anxiety come before him, and let his presence remind you that grace abounds in Jesus Christ – that he is all we really need. God invites us to come to him, in the midst of our weakness and frailty and find rest for our souls.

PREACHING OF THE WORD

Gary Aston preached to us this week from Matthew 26:36-46. To listen to that sermon click here.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

POST COMMUNION READING

Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: The Power of the Cross

Song: Jesus Paid it All

COMMITMENT READING

Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds we have been healed.”

(1 Peter 2:21-24)

Song: Lamb of God

BENEDICTION

To Christ, our Lord, who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, and made us to be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever.

Peace be with you.

And also with you.
Amen.

THE FINAL DAYS OF JESUS - The Supper

CALL TO WORSHIP

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100

Song: Look What God Has Done

Song: In Tenderness He Sought Me

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

By nature we are forgetful beings. We've just sung of the grace that brought us into the fold of God, yet we are quick to forget God's grace shown to us, quick to forget his faithfulness to us. More than that, we minimise our sin, thinking we're not that bad, forgetting that it took Jesus his life to save us. Every week at Redeemer, we take a moment to confess to God together, it's a way to come before God in humility, and remember our standing before him. Let's pray these words together as a confession to God now.

Awesome and compassionate God, you have loved us with unfailing, self-giving mercy, but we have not loved you. You are a faithful God, yet we are unfaithful, time and time again.

Forgive us for running after other things to find joy and satisfaction, remind us that in doing this we take the cross for granted. Show us, once again, that it cost Jesus his life to save us from our sin.

As you come to us in mercy, we repent in spirit and in truth, admit our sin, and gratefully receive your forgiveness through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.

(Adapted from the Worship Sourcebook)

The truth of the gospel is that in Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matthew 26:26-28)

Song: When I Survey

Song: See the Lamb of God

COMMITMENT READING

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him we believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so our faith and hope are in God.

(1 Peter 1:18-21)

Song: Man of Sorrows

BENEDICTION

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing! …To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!

Peace be with you.

And also with you.
Amen.
