REDEEMER VISION - Grow

SERMON

This Sunday we’ll be starting our vision series, looking at the first aspect of our 2020 Vision: ‘Grow’. Gary Aston will be preaching to us from Acts 2:42-47.

LITURGY

COMMITMENT READING

Father God, we ask that you would help us to grow in every way to be more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Remind us that it Jesus who fits the whole body together perfectly, so that it can grow and be built up in love, as each part does its work.

(Based on Ephesians 4:15-16)

MUSIC

  • New Again (Sojourn): A song that celebrates the hope we have in Jesus, a hope of an eternal future in which he will make all things new.

  • Made Alive (Citizens and Saints): A song that reminds us of the new life we can know in Christ. A celebration that we’ve been brought from death to life in Jesus.

REDEEMER VISION - Servants

CALL TO WORSHIP

Praise the Lord, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them he remains faithful for ever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous.

The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

The Lord reigns for ever, for all generations. Praise the Lord.

(Based on Psalm 146)

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

Heavenly Father, we've already heard that you are a compassionate and trustworthy God, you are the giver of all good gifts, yet so often we are ungrateful for these gifts. We use them for selfish gain. We are selfish with our time, money and resources. Please forgive us for this we pray. Remind us of your generosity, shown to us in Christ, when he gave himself up for us. Help us to show that generosity towards others in how we love and care for them. Amen.

PASSING OF THE PEACE

SERVE THE CITY INTERVIEWS

We heard from a few individuals about the different projects involved in Saturday's Serve the City project day, taking time in groups to pray for these things.

PREACHING OF THE WORD

Gary Aston preached to us this week, helping us to think through our identity as servants from Jesus' words in Matthew 5:38-42. Click here to listen to that sermon.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

POST COMMUNION READING

Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: How Deep the Father's Love

Song: Jesus

BENEDICTION

Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

Peace be with you.

And also with you.
Amen.

REDEEMER VISION - Witnesses

CALL TO WORSHIP

You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

As for God, his way is perfect: the Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God?

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.

(Psalm 18:28-33)

Song: All Creatures of our God and King

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

God tells us in his word that the world in which we live is a dark place, sin has distorted the good and perfect creation God has made and it took his own son, Jesus Christ, dying on a cross to bring light into the darkness. Even though as Christians we believe this to be true, we still, daily, choose the darkness over light. Here's an opportunity to take a moment to reflect on that now, to confess these ways before our God. Hear these words that assure our hearts from Jesus to us now:

“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

This is the truth of the Gospel that we can know and experience in light of Jesus' death and resurrection. This next song is a prayer; it's a request that asks God to reveal more of his light into our lives today.

COMMITMENT READING

Heavenly Father we ask that you would help us to bring your light into our homes, work places, families and friendships. Would our relationships be life-giving rather than joy-sapping. Help us to boldly share the gospel with our words and with our actions. And would we act against injustice and oppression in our city, living lives that demonstrate the Gospel to a watching world.

Song: Jesus

BENEDICTION

Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works
and give glory to your Father who is in heaven

Peace be with you.

And also with you.
Amen.
