Serve The City - Looking Back

At the end of November, the Redeemer church family rolled up their sleeves and put on their wellington boots for Serve The City (Autumn 2016). The weekend's emphasis on serving others was so timely.

As we enter the Advent season we pray that, through the various acts of service, those on the receiving end will encounter at least a bit of the love of Jesus as they’re shown that people care about them. As we served together many mentioned how much they enjoyed the fellowship and fun of spending time together as the Redeemer family.

Here are some facts and figures from the weekend:

•     25 doors painted
•     3 murals painted
•     30 hampers distributed
•     £743 donated
•     Abigail House cleaned
•     Neighbour's hedge/trees felled
•     Countless weeds pulled from a cold & icy allotment!

SERMON

Gary Aston will be taking us to Luke 1:5-25; 67-7 this week, showing us what Zechariah's song tells us about faith, joy and our hearts.

CALL TO WORSHIP

Long ago, the coming birth of our Saviour Jesus was foretold to the people of Israel and to a world, who like us now, was longing for a Saviour to bring relief from the suffering and sin: The prophets of old proclaimed that the people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. And today, above the clamor of our darkness and sin, the Word of truth and light resounds. Over nations enshrouded in despair His salvation dawns.

For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

MUSIC

• Come Thou Long Expected Jesus (Kings Kaleidoscope) : A wonderful reminder of why Jesus came down into this world, as a child and yet a king, to deliver us from our sin and reign over all. 

• Angels from the Realms of Glory: A retelling of the Christmas narrative, calling us to come and worship King Jesus.

ADVENT - Acoustic Carols

Gary Aston will be kicking off our Advent series this week, helping us to see what God is like, from Mary's song in Luke 1:46-55. 

LITURGY

READING OF THE WORD

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm;  he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring for ever.”
