Children and Youth

Our vision is to see every child and young person grow into a resilient follower of Jesus - rooted in his word, secure in his love and confident in living for him in today’s world.

Our team of volunteers works hard to provide teaching and activities that are engaging, thoughtful and age-appropriate. All our groups are grounded in the Bible, but no prior knowledge of the Bible - or Christianity - is needed. We love welcoming new children and young people, and no one will ever be put on the spot or pressured to join in.

Creche (6 months–2½ years)

A relaxed, happy space with plenty of play, singing and a short Bible story. For those ready, there’s a simple craft linked to the story.

Pre-School (2½ years–Reception)

Through storytelling, crafts, games, singing and play, children discover that God made them, loves them and sent Jesus so we can know him.

Redeemer Kids (Reception–Year 3)

Children explore a Bible story together through games and songs, then break into small groups to discuss and pray. We follow a three-year Bible overview, helping children see that the Bible is one big story of God’s saving love - and that every part points to Jesus.

Next Step Kids (Years 4–6)

Building on the same three-year overview, this group goes deeper - learning how to explore passages for themselves, ask good questions, and think about how what they’ve learned will shape the week ahead. There’s still time to chat and enjoy games together too!

Twice a month, our youth stay in the main gathering before sharing food and conversation together. On the other Sundays, they meet in a nearby church member’s home for games and Bible study in a more informal setting. We also offer one-to-one mentoring with older members of our church family, and host a Saturday Night Youth gathering for games and discussion.

Planning your Visit

New to Redeemer

We're really glad you're thinking of visiting!

Here's everything you need to know before you do — no surprises, no pressure.

Finding us
PC outside

We meet at St Chad's Parish Centre on Otley Road and our service starts at 4:00pm. We'd suggest arriving around 3:45pm - not because you'll miss anything, but because we put the kettle on early and it's a genuinely nice way to ease in!

Someone from our Welcome Team will be there to say hello when you arrive. Look for the blue lanyards.

Parking is available in the Parish Centre car park. If it's full, there's free street parking on Drummond Road, Drummond Avenue, Hollin Road, Hollin Mount and Weetwood Lane.

DSC00907 (1)Accessibility: There's wheelchair access, a hearing loop and a translation link. Just let the Welcome Team know when you arrive and they'll help you get settled. We have disabled toilets in the main foyer. Fidget toys are available to anyone who wants them, a number within our church family bring their own ear defenders - and it's completely fine to step outside for a breath of air at any point.

What's the service actually like?

Relaxed - but with a genuine invitation to meet God.

It runs for about an hour and a half and flows something like this: a warm welcome, sung worship led by our band, church news and then a sermon that's rooted in the Bible but connected to real life. Towards the end there's an opportunity to take communion, some time to reflect, and we finish with more sung worship. There's an optional invitation to receive prayer, and... more refreshments!

You won't be put on the spot, asked to do anything you're not comfortable with or made to feel like an outsider.

About communion - Towards the end of the service we share a simple act of remembrance together: a small piece of bread and a small cup of wine. Individual portions are laid out for people to collect and take to their seats. If you're a follower of Jesus, you're warmly welcome to join in. If you're still exploring, simply stay seated — nobody will notice and nobody will mind.

Bringing children?

Brilliant — we love having families with us!

Children start the service with the adults for the welcome and songs, then after about 15 minutes they're free to head to their own groups. First time? You'll need to register them as part of our safeguarding policy, so allow a few extra minutes when you arrive.

We have a great programme lined up for kids:

  • Creche (6 months to 2 years)
  • Pre-school (2.5-4 years)
  • Redeemer Kids (4-8 years)
  • Next Step Kids (8-11 years)
  • Redeemer Youth (11-16 years)

Each group has its own flavour, but expect Bible stories, games, music, craft, drama and plenty of fun. Please collect your children as soon as the service ends.
