How do you know when God is guiding you? How do you tell the difference between God's direction and your own wishful thinking? Ed Preston explores Genesis 24 - the beautiful story of Abraham’s servant finding a wife for Isaac. It’s a masterclass in divine guidance. The servant prays. He acts. He reflects. He worships. And at every step, God guides him to exactly the right place, at exactly the right time. And so, the promised line of Abraham’s descendants in the land is maintained.

When Sarah dies, Abraham does something unexpected - he spends a small fortune on a burial plot. Why? Because in the middle of grief, he's making a long-term investment in a promise God hasn't yet fulfilled. In this sermon on Genesis 23, Charlie helps us explore what it looks like to stake everything on what is to come - and how God gives us signs to hold onto as we ache and wait.

"Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and offer him as a burnt offering." Genesis 22 is one of the most disturbing chapters in Scripture. God commands Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. The son he waited twenty-five years for. The child of promise through whom all nations would be blessed. The inconceivable request. This command makes no sense - instinctively (kill your own child?), theologically (human sacrifice is abhorrent to God), or covenantally (how can God's promises come true if Isaac dies?).

Have you ever wondered if God will actually keep his promises? Or felt like you're investing in something you'll never see come to fruition? Twenty-five years after God first promised Abraham descendants, Sarah conceives. She's ninety. Abraham is a hundred. It's biologically impossible. Yet, in Genesis 21, Isaac is born: not just the answer to their longing, but the hinge on which the whole story turns.

Have you ever felt like God isn’t coming through for you? Like he's failed to provide, failed to care, failed to show up when you desperately needed him? Mark Ellis (Keswick Ministries) explores Exodus 17:1-7: an episode where the Israelites feel exactly this. They're thirsty in the wilderness. There's no water. And they put God on trial.

Have you ever found yourself making the same mistake again? Failing in the exact same way you promised you’d never fail again? In this sermon, Ed Preston explores Genesis 20. After everything we've seen: God's covenant promises, Abraham’s bold intercession for Sodom, the destruction of the wicked cities… Abraham does it again. He lies about Sarah being his sister, abandoning her to save his own skin. The same failure. The second time.

Genesis 19 is one of the Bible's most uncomfortable chapters. It contains a violent mob, fire from heaven, a woman turned to salt and a disturbing scene in a cave. But it’s ultimately about what we all face when unchecked desire is given free rein, how we respond when confronted with God’s judgment, and how we live faithfully when the future we hoped for feels closed.

What happens when perfect justice meets infinite mercy? Can both be satisfied at once? An outcry has reached God: the injustice of Sodom and Gomorrah. God announces he will bring judgment. Then he pauses, inviting Abraham to respond. In the dialogue that follows, Abraham discovers a principle that changes everything: the righteousness of the few can hold back judgment on the many.

What is worth giving up everything for? In this message, we explore Jesus' parable of the buried treasure to uncover the incomparable value of the Kingdom of Heaven. We will look at how discovering true spiritual riches leads not to a burdened life of sacrifice, but to a life of joyful, all-in surrender to Christ.

Have you ever lost something that really mattered? That horrible feeling when it seems like nothing will ever be right again? That's how Jesus' disciples felt on the first Easter morning. Their teacher, their friend, their hope - gone. Everything they believed had collapsed. But then everything changed.

Planning your Visit

New to Redeemer

We're really glad you're thinking of visiting!

Here's everything you need to know before you do — no surprises, no pressure.

Finding us
PC outside

We meet at St Chad's Parish Centre on Otley Road and our service starts at 4:00pm. We'd suggest arriving around 3:45pm - not because you'll miss anything, but because we put the kettle on early and it's a genuinely nice way to ease in!

Someone from our Welcome Team will be there to say hello when you arrive. Look for the blue lanyards.

Parking is available in the Parish Centre car park. If it's full, there's free street parking on Drummond Road, Drummond Avenue, Hollin Road, Hollin Mount and Weetwood Lane.

DSC00907 (1)Accessibility: There's wheelchair access, a hearing loop and a translation link. Just let the Welcome Team know when you arrive and they'll help you get settled. We have disabled toilets in the main foyer. Fidget toys are available to anyone who wants them, a number within our church family bring their own ear defenders - and it's completely fine to step outside for a breath of air at any point.

What's the service actually like?

Relaxed - but with a genuine invitation to meet God.

It runs for about an hour and a half and flows something like this: a warm welcome, sung worship led by our band, church news and then a sermon that's rooted in the Bible but connected to real life. Towards the end there's an opportunity to take communion, some time to reflect, and we finish with more sung worship. There's an optional invitation to receive prayer, and... more refreshments!

You won't be put on the spot, asked to do anything you're not comfortable with or made to feel like an outsider.

gathering

About communion - Towards the end of the service we share a simple act of remembrance together: a small piece of bread and a small cup of wine. Individual portions are laid out for people to collect and take to their seats. If you're a follower of Jesus, you're warmly welcome to join in. If you're still exploring, simply stay seated — nobody will notice and nobody will mind.

Bringing children?

Brilliant — we love having families with us!

Children start the service with the adults for the welcome and songs, then after about 15 minutes they're free to head to their own groups. First time? You'll need to register them as part of our safeguarding policy, so allow a few extra minutes when you arrive.

We have a great programme lined up for kids:

  • Creche (6 months to 2 years)
  • Pre-school (2.5-4 years)
  • Redeemer Kids (4-8 years)
  • Next Step Kids (8-11 years)
  • Redeemer Youth (11-16 years)

Each group has its own flavour, but expect Bible stories, games, music, craft, drama and plenty of fun. Please collect your children as soon as the service ends.
